European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.
For our Communication group we are looking for a
Scientific Writer / Communication Officer (f/m/d)
The Position
- Writing press releases and news, texts for website, posters, brochures and other publications in English and German
- Establishing and maintaining media contacts
- Monitoring and analysing media coverage
- Developing communication strategies in coordination with the Group Leader
- Organizing media events and interviews
- Editing articles, brochures, posters, webpages and other publications
- Coordinating the production of publications, e.g. Annual Report
- Developing, managing and updating content on the European XFEL website
- Working with the Social Media Manager to provide content, and stepping in for the Social Media manager during periods his/her absence
- Coordinating publication of news with partner PR departments and agencies
- Engaging in and supporting other activities of the Communication and Education group
Requirements
- University degree (communications, journalism or natural sciences)
- Relevant experience in science PR or science journalism
- Established network in science communication or science journalism
- Native speaker level of English or German; native German speakers will need a very good knowledge of English (close to native speaker level), English native speakers are expected to acquire a good working level of German within a short period of time
- Very good writing and editing skills (please include three relevant samples or links to texts you have written)
- Ability to translate complex scientific topics to content accessible to non-experts
- Ability to work independently on different projects simultaneously and on tight deadlines
- social media and digital expertise
- Organisational skills and a proactive approach
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
